MIA view

just had to include these: after some rain, and a really good morning!

and then, of course, there was a lot to unpack; so, of course, I go and make an apron!

road trip!

I did it! Well, no, not really, I didn't do it, my BigSis did: I was along for the ride as Comic Relief, so it can be said that we did do it, and we were finally happy to have finished it: a great road trip in the smallest UHaul (10-ft truck), from New York to Miami; successfully, without event, and avoiding the (last?) great snow storm in the East Coast while we were at it.

Here are some shots of Spring in the City right before we took off. Sad to say, the road trip is not really a visually appealing kind of experience: driving down the 95-Interstate Freeway, one can only see more of the same: between long stretches of nothing there's redundant signage of Rest Areas and more of nothing along the way.

Besides, driving a UHaul takes quite a bit of concentration - which my sister thought would be a snap to do. I would never have even dared to think of doing it, but she sounded so convincing, that I took her up on it. And she did great! She is my new SuperHero: the WonderWoman to my WanderWoman, the yin to my yang, the Tweedledum to my Fiddledeedee.

We went from New York to never thinking we'd get out of New Jersey, to overnighting in Virginia, and then visiting in South Carolina, and getting all the way down to the beginnings of Florida (stayed over at Palm Coast, because, well, we'd never been to a SuperTarget before), and then arriving in Miami well before the limit of days or mileage allotted by UHaul.

I'd say we bonded, but my sister was awfully quiet: I found out later she was regretting ever having that enthusiastic (some call it 'manic') moment about driving the UHaul just like it's the old ClubWagon - which she snuck out on more than one occasion, as she was learning to drive.

it's not the motorcycle diaries, but it was what I called 'a virgin voyage' ;-)

Paestum

Poseidonia/Paestum is a site where Greek temples were found (in southern Italy) dating back to 500 BC! While there, they were still arduously at work (still) putting stuff together! It was impressive. It wasn't as big as Pompei, but it also isn't entirely uncovered either; neither is Pompei, for that matter.

enjoying the Poetry of CloseUp for the moment;
until,
what th'?!?!
is it ...?
it is! Eine blöde BVGKarte!
left by some blöde Berlinertouri!
after the Italians have taken great pains in putting Pompei back together, pebble by pebble, piece by piece, some bloody German Tourist (oder some Germany-touring Tourist - es kann ja auch sein) leaves some litter
from Berlin in Pompei:
globetrodding Globetrotter!
And I do mean it in a bad way.

falling and fallen civilizations

While Wall Street was crumbling,
we thought to visit some other fallen civilizations
and see how they've been (pardon the pun)
holding up:
actually, impressively nicely - what's left of them, anyway.
We were in Pompei and Poseidonia/Paestum - Greek temples in Italy dating from 500 BC. Here are some Fotos of what's left of Vesuvius and Pompei.

upon departure, I happened to bump into 'Bushito'
at Flughafen Schoenefeld
and, upon landing in Napoli,
I was perplexed to find they have disabled the toilets
and was quite in a hurry to locate the enabled ones...

insecurity in the www

"It's also critical to remember that once you put data online, it's almost impossible to delete it later. The more you blog about yourself, the more details you put in your social networking profiles, the more information about you is being archived, copied, backed up and analyzed almost immediately. Think first, post later."

This is actually from an excellent article in Scientific American, by Herbert H Thompson: 'How I Stole Someone's Identity'

wieder da!

I'm ba-ack! for a mere, brief interjection, I'm afraid. Life's a little hektish momentan; plus, I have to admit I am suffering from EMBB; an emotional mental block to blog - I am still reworking the naming of that condition, just so I get a cooler acronym, but in the Tension of wanting to write that down and getting to a cooler name to call it, I find myself here, trapped in the middle, writing.
Right when I started, I received - not an Epiphany - but the great Sermon on the Mount from my Baby Bother, the great IT-Guru, about the Perils of Personal Disclosure on the www - as opposed to the Impersonal, I guess, the distinction of which is made blurry by the Internet. And so, aside from all the Hektik, and again, finding myself trapped in the Tension of wanting to write, and the not wanting to divulge much - fearing the yet unknown long-term effects of eternal Disclosure, I type (and publish!) this - in a weak moment (it's 3am when I got started) - just to see that - hey, nothing happens ... yet.
But I guess that is what writing does: sharing/disclosing; and the medium dictates 'with whom' that sharing occurs, if at all. If (only) for the self, then it's a (also?) Reverie. Hm... well, no time for that now... I will have to pick up that Theme again.

it is what it is

Basura en Buenos Aires

remember Santol?

something I grabbed off the www.
If unfamiliar, Santol is a fruit found in Asia - very good, very sour:
very good when very sour!

grey - the new black, and no longer pink

well, thanks Autumn, er, Karl, for saving the Grey, so to speak. It was a little too pink, and since I still can't find a Template I like, this'll do for now. If you missed the pink-sighting of this Spot, it was a little too 'bubble gum/Barbie' pink and was quite tiring to the eye.

ah! here I am!

due to the culmination of popular demand and increased boredom in Bermuda - which is where I am at the moment, and for a much extended time at that, I've decided that, aside from all the other stuff I do have to do, it's time to set up a blog of my own before all the clever names get taken. It seems, however, that I'm too late and not that clever. I've come up with 'multikultiMe' because all the other initial 'Eureka/great-idea-for-a-Blogname' have consistently been taken. I was up till the wee hour of midnight, googling 'my2cents', 'meineMeinung' and 'movingTarget (with Tagline: 'cause it's hard to hit' I was quite pleased with that one, schade!)' clicking 'Enter' only to get ... (blast! Foiled again!) "That Name's been taken."

so I thought to blog, because ... several people near and dear have prodded me to write, and set up a blog and then a few others did, and like I mentioned, the whole impetus to get started (and actually, ironically, one of the impediments as well) was figuring out a good name - ja, I am that particular, sometimes. And, the whole aspect that it's free and that I do have the time, culminated in 'aha! it's what free+time is for!' I should google that; that sounds like a good Blogname, or?

Well, I hope you like it, and let me know if it's a liiittle tooooo PINK for ya. I figured I could change that as the mood/energy level strikes me. Let's call this a 'work in progress' ... or just work.
