after the Italians have taken great pains in putting Pompei back together, pebble by pebble, piece by piece, some bloody German Tourist (oder some Germany-touring Tourist - es kann ja auch sein) leaves some litter

And I do mean it in a bad way.

falling and fallen civilizations

While Wall Street was crumbling, 

we thought to visit some other fallen civilizations 

and see how they've been (pardon the pun)

holding up: 

actually, impressively nicely - what's left of them, anyway.

We were in Pompei and Poseidonia/Paestum - Greek temples in Italy dating from 500 BC. Here are some Fotos of what's left of Vesuvius and Pompei.
